COACHING EDUCATION & CERTIFICATIONS
ATHLETE CONCUSSION UPDATE
The NFHS and CIF have established new guidelines regarding athlete
concussions and the ability to return to play. Check out these links
for an NFHS press
release regarding student athlete concussions and for
information all coaches should understand and abide by when dealing
with concussions and the overall health of their student athletes.
WALK-ON COACH CERTIFICATION UPDATE
The State Legislature has passed an amendment to AB1025 exempting
school districts that currently use both FBI and DOJ information when
conducting background checks on coaches from requiring walk-on coaches to
obtain ASC certification from the CTC. As the SFUSD uses both
sources, walk-on coaches employed by the SFUSD do NOT need to obtain the
additional certification. Check this link for

CIF ELIGIBILITY SURVEY
The CIF is conducting an eligibility survey and would like to hear from
high school coaches and athletic directors. To complete the survey,
please select the link above. Your input is valuable, so take a
short amount of time and help the CIF with this project!

offers First Aid ( 3 year cert.) and CPR (2 year cert.) courses on an as
needed basis. Cost is $50 for one course and $60 for both courses.

TWO SF SECTION ATHLETIC DIRECTORS RECEIVE CSADA AWARDS
The annual CSADA conference was held April 22-25 in Reno with two of
our SF Section Athletic Directors receiving top honors. Washington's
Taylan Plasch received the Norm McKenzie "Rookie of the Year" award, and
Kenyatta Scott of Lincoln garnered the title of "CIF SF Section AD of the
Year." Congratulations to both gentlemen on being recognized for
their fine efforts!
MISSION COACH EARNS TOP HONORS
Mission HS Soccer coach and Athletic Director Scott Kennedy was one
of 20 national recipients of the Positive Coaching Alliance Double Goal
Coach award. Check this link for the

O'CONNELL COACH RECEIVES NATIONAL AWARD
AAA/SF Section Boys Soccer Champion O'Connell received another
honor recently as their head coach Bob Gamino received the NFHS West
Sectional Coach of the Year for 2009. This award is presented by the
governing body of high school sports and covers the states of Arizona,
California, Hawaii, Nevada, and Utah. Congratulations to "Coach Bob"
on this great achievement!
