SFUSD ATHLETIC SUPPORTER REMEMBERED
Claude Rosenberg Jr., main benefactor for the renovation of the Burton HS athletic field and track and long time supporter of youth athletics in San Francisco, passed away recently at the age of 80.  The AAA and SF Section mourns the loss of this "City Native," Lowell HS graduate, successful businessman, and icon of philanthropy who was dedicated to bettering the lives of many San Franciscans.  His good nature, caring, and generosity will truly be missed!

Check out this link which provides a summary of research that effectively demonstrates the positive impact of athletics (both school-based and community-based) on youth development and academics.

BURTON FIELD PROJECT UPDATE
Construction in final stages!  Both the football field and track are complete and in use.  Only the "D-zones" (for field events), the pole vault area, and the concession stand and bathrooms remain to be finished.  Total project completion should take place by the Summer of 2008.

BURTON FIELD OPENING CEREMONY
The dedication ceremony for Rosenberg Stadium and the new synthetic turf field on the Burton High School campus was held October 20, 2006.  San Francisco mayor Gavin Newsom was on hand to cut the ribbon along with other dignitaries including SFUSD Interim Superintendent Gwen Chan, School Board member Jill Wynns, Project Manager Craig Issod, major donor and stadium namesake Claude Rosenberg, Burton principal Eric Marshall, and Athletic Commissioner Donald Collins.  The first official game was held on the field the following day with Balboa downing host Burton in varsity football.  Check out this link for more photos of the dedication ceremonies.
