ABOUT US
The San Francisco Section is one of ten sectional members of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF), the governing body for high school interscholastic athletics in California. The San Francisco Section entered the CIF in 1945 with its members being both public and private high schools in San Francisco, all of whom were also members of the Academic Athletic Association (AAA). The AAA began in 1925 when the San Francisco Athletic League (SFAL), which began as the Academic Athletic League (AAL) in 1894, changed it's name to the Academic Athletic Association. The current membership of the AAA and San Francisco Section is comprised of 13 SFUSD Public Schools, 2 Charter Schools, and 3 Private Schools.
San Francisco Section champions travel throughout the state to compete against students from the furthest reaches of California in badminton, baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, spirit squad, tennis, track, volleyball, and wrestling. In addition to the above mentioned sports, the 17 high schools also participate in the following sectional sports: fencing, girls flag football, and lacrosse. |
